Albert Shiraz 2017

The reviews keep coming for Albert – named after Kym Teusner’s grandfather – close to perfect with 96 points awarded.

“Long a mainstay of Teusner’s range, Albert has forever been my favourite, and confidently remains the best, even as his portfolio expands both upwards and outwards. Its black fruit depth, fragrant violet allure, deeply spicy complexity and dark chocolate undercurrent marry magnificently with finely confident tannins, the balanced acid poise of the cool 2017 season and fantastic persistence.”

“An attractive sweetly fruited shiraz that has plenty of raspberries and blackberries, filling the nose and palate. The tannins are supple, long and easy going and there’s a kick of baking spice to close.”

Albert Shiraz is named after Kym Teusner’s Grandfather, Albert Alfred Teusner…a man admired for his commitment and his persistence. Like previous vintages, Albert Shiraz is made from parcels of fruit sourced from a couple of our favourite vineyards….an old block at Ebenezer in the Barossa’s North and another at the Barossa’s South Eastern most extremity at Williamstown.

2015 Vintage;

“Albert Shiraz is named after my Grandfather, Albert Alfred Teusner…a man I admired for his commitment and his persistence. Like previous vintages, Albert Shiraz is made from parcels of fruit sourced from a couple of our favourite vineyards….an old block at Ebenezer in the Barossa’s North and another at the Barossa’s South Eastern most extremity at Williamstown.

I reckon the 2012 was one of the best seasons that I have ever seen.  Textbook perfect – cold wet winter, cool sunny spring, warm long ripening period with cool nights delivering fruit with great flavour, beautifully balanced acids and tannin. The wines are stylish and full with great poise and structure, and our 2015 Albert Shiraz is a great ambassador for a great vintage.

The old vineyards produce small yields of amazing concentrated fruit flavour, with soft, supple and velvety tannins that set them apart from the younger stuff. Plenty of blackberry, black satsuma plum, black cheery and cassis with great intensity and length. The ‘15 reds all show superb structure and I’m fairly confident in saying this is one of our best Alberts yet.”
